- Purpose
This policy sets out First Kick Football’s commitment to environmental sustainability and reducing our environmental impact. It supports the EYFS 2023 (para 3.65 – Safety and suitability of premises, environment and equipment), and contributes to children’s wider understanding of respect for the natural world, in line with the Equality Act 2010.
- Principles
We are committed to:
– Reducing pollution, emissions, and waste.
– Conserving energy and natural resources.
– Promoting recycling and reuse wherever possible.
– Raising children’s awareness of environmental issues through activities, projects, and daily routines.
- Staff Responsibilities
– Staff receive induction and ongoing training on sustainability practices.
– Staff model environmentally responsible behaviour (switching off lights, reducing water use, recycling).
– Staff encourage and support children to take part in environmental practices.
- Children’s Involvement
Children are taught about environmental responsibility through:
– Daily routines (recycling, saving water, litter awareness).
– Discussions, group projects, and themed activities.
– Participation in the club’s eco code.
- Eco Code
Our eco code is followed by all staff and children:
– We re-use and recycle our waste materials.
– We switch off lights when not in use and use energy-saving bulbs where possible.
– We turn off electrical equipment at the source when not in use.
– We turn off taps after use and avoid wasting water.
– We do not drop litter.
– We plan outings to minimise vehicle use and use public transport whenever possible.
- Monitoring & Review
– Environmental practices are monitored during staff meetings and site checks.
– Opportunities to improve sustainability (e.g., reducing plastic, sourcing eco-friendly supplies) are regularly reviewed.
– Children’s feedback and ideas are encouraged.
- Review
This policy will be reviewed annually, or sooner if required by changes in legislation or practice.
