Healthy Eating Policy

  1. Purpose

First Kick Football is committed to promoting healthy eating and supporting children to develop positive lifelong attitudes towards food. We comply with the Food Safety Act 1990, the Food Hygiene Regulations, and the EYFS 2023 (para 3.48 – Food and drink). 

  1. Roles & Responsibilities

– Operations Director – ensures policy and training reflect national standards and Ofsted guidance.
– Office Team – maintain allergy records, training documentation, and communication with parents.
– Holiday Club Manager – ensures safe practice, healthy choices, and daily implementation on site.
– All Staff – encourage healthy habits and act as role models. 

  1. Healthy Food & Drink Provision

– Children are provided with healthy, nutritious, and balanced snacks.
– Fresh drinking water is available at all times.
– Fresh fruit is available at every session.
– Food and drink are prepared safely with regard to dietary, cultural, and religious needs.
– Food allergies and intolerances are recorded and displayed for staff in the food preparation area. 

  1. Promoting Healthy Habits

– Children are encouraged to develop good eating skills and table manners.
– Children are given adequate time to eat.
– Where appropriate, children are involved in planning and preparing snacks.
– Staff discuss the importance of a balanced diet in an age-appropriate way.
– Food is never withheld as a punishment, and children are never forced to eat or drink. 

  1. Restrictions

– Sweets are not regularly provided.
– Access to foods high in fat, salt, or sugar is limited. 

  1. Links to Other Policies

– Food Safety Policy – covers hygiene, storage, allergen management.
– Equalities Policy – ensures all dietary needs (medical, cultural, or religious) are respected. 

  1. Review

This policy will be reviewed annually, or sooner if required by legislation or following an incident.
