- Purpose
This policy sets out how First Kick Football manages illness, accidents, and communicable diseases. We comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, RIDDOR 2013, UKHSA Health Protection Guidance, and the EYFS 2023 (paras 3.49–3.51, Annex A – Paediatric First Aid).
- Roles & Responsibilities
– Operations Director – ensures policies, training, and reporting systems meet legal requirements.
– Office Team – maintain accident/incident records, exclusion notices, and medical forms.
– Holiday Club Manager – responsible on site for managing illness, accidents, and reporting to parents and Ofsted.
– All Staff – follow first aid training, infection control procedures, and record incidents accurately.
- First Aid Provision
– At least one paediatric first aid trained staff member is present at all times.
– Training is renewed every three years and complies with EYFS Annex A.
– A first aid box (checked regularly) is available on site and taken on outings.
– The Manager ensures a list of trained first aiders is displayed at the Club.
- Accident & Incident Procedures
– Minor injury → first aid given, parent informed at collection, recorded in Accident Log.
– Serious injury or illness → ambulance called, staff member accompanies child with Medical Form, parents contacted immediately.
– Notifications → Ofsted informed of any serious accident/illness, food poisoning (2+ children), or notifiable disease within 14 days. HSE notified under RIDDOR if required.
– After a major incident, policies/procedures are reviewed.
- Illness & Exclusion
– Children who are unwell will not be admitted.
– Parents will be asked to collect if a child becomes ill during a session.
– Children may return once fully recovered or after the minimum exclusion period.
– We follow UKHSA guidance for exclusion periods (see appendix).
- Communicable Diseases
– Parents are notified if a communicable disease is identified in the setting.
– Notifiable diseases are reported to UKHSA and Ofsted as required.
– Discretion is used (e.g. head lice notices are handled confidentially).
- Review
This policy will be reviewed annually, or sooner if required by legislation or following an incident.
Appendix – Minimum Exclusion Periods
We follow current UKHSA guidance on infection control and recommended exclusion periods for children with communicable diseases. This includes, but is not limited to, guidance on diarrhoea, vomiting, chickenpox, measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough, and head lice.
