Staff Behaviour Policy

1. Policy Statement 

First Kick Football expects all staff, volunteers, and contractors to maintain high standards of conduct and professionalism. The purpose of this policy is to provide clear guidance on acceptable behaviour to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children, colleagues, and families. 

2. Legislative Framework

3. Code of Conduct 

  • Prioritise the welfare and safeguarding of children at all times. 
  • Act as positive role models, showing respect, kindness, and inclusivity. 
  • Maintain professional boundaries with children, parents, and colleagues. 
  • Never use physical punishment or inappropriate language. 
  • Dress appropriately for activities, ensuring practicality and professionalism. 
  • Avoid personal relationships with parents/carers that may compromise professionalism. 
  • Follow confidentiality and data protection rules. 
  • Report safeguarding or safety concerns immediately to the Welfare Officer. 

4. Use of Mobile Phones and Technology 

  • Personal phones must not be used during working hours except on breaks. 
  • Staff must not use personal devices to photograph or contact children or families. 
  • Staff may contact parents/carers only using WebEx, which displays the Head Office number. 
  • Club devices may be used for authorised purposes only. 

5. Drugs, Alcohol and Smoking 

  • Staff must not be under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or misused medication at work. 
  • Smoking/vaping is prohibited on site and during activities. 

6. Safeguarding Relationships 

  • Staff must maintain appropriate boundaries and never develop relationships with children or young people. 
  • Contact with children outside of work (via social media, messaging, etc.) is prohibited unless authorised for safeguarding reasons. 

7. Breaches of Policy 

Any breach will be investigated under the Staff Disciplinary Policy. Serious breaches (e.g., safeguarding failures, gross misconduct) may result in dismissal and referral to statutory or football authorities. 

8. Responsibilities 

  • Operations Director – overall responsibility for ensuring staff behaviour standards are upheld. 
  • HR & Coaching Performance Manager / Welfare Officer (Danny Nolan) – delivers staff training, monitors conduct, and manages disciplinary processes. 
  • Holiday Club Manager (Lee Galloway) – ensures daily adherence across holiday clubs. 
  • All Staff – are expected to comply fully with this policy and model positive behaviour. 

9. Review 

This policy will be reviewed annually or earlier if required by law or inspection.
