Staff Induction Policy

1. Policy Statement 

First Kick Football is committed to ensuring all new staff, volunteers, and contractors receive a thorough induction so they can understand their roles, responsibilities, and the organisation’s safeguarding, health and safety, and operational standards. 

2. Legislative Framework

3. Induction Programme 

  • Welcome and introduction to First Kick Football’s vision, values, and safeguarding ethos. 
  • Review of job role and responsibilities. 
  • Introduction to line manager and colleagues. 
  • Tour of facilities, resources, and procedures. 
  • Health and safety training, including fire safety and emergency procedures. 
  • Review of key policies: Safeguarding, Behaviour, Staff Conduct, Health & Safety, Whistleblowing, Confidentiality. 
  • Code of Conduct and professional standards. 
  • Role-specific training (e.g., coaching standards, holiday club operations). 
  • IT systems training (WebEx, booking systems, reporting tools). 

4. Probation and Support 

  • All staff complete a probation period (normally 6 months). 
  • Regular supervision and mentoring are provided during probation. 
  • Additional training and support are arranged where needed. 

5. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) 

  • After induction, staff take part in annual appraisals, CPD, and mandatory training refreshers (e.g., safeguarding, first aid, health & safety). 
  • Opportunities are provided for role-specific development (e.g., coaching performance, SEND support, management training). 

6. Responsibilities 

  • Operations Director – overall responsibility for ensuring induction systems are in place and effective. 
  • HR & Coaching Performance Manager / Welfare Officer (Danny Nolan) – oversees induction training, safeguarding requirements, and performance standards. 
  • Holiday Club Manager (Lee Galloway) – ensures staff at clubs are properly inducted into site-specific procedures. 
  • Line Managers – ensure role-specific induction is completed. 
  • All Staff – are expected to engage with induction and ongoing development.
